SCML for 2022

We will start the new year out by resuming our participation in the International Postal Match sponsored by Upper Michigan Peninsula Muzzleloaders. For those who participated in the past the UMPML sends out targets to be shot at 25 yards beginning with the January shoot and ending with the June shoot. Targets are to be shot at a club match and a minimum of 6 targets are turned in to be scored. We pick the best 6 each time so everyone has a chance to shine. Shooters are not picked beforehand. Scores are published on their web site and they include clubs from Canada as well as the US. The web site is here if you want more information:

Freeze Arse Report - Manteca - Jan 8

Tim Ochsner along with new shooter Lee Patch shot the trail walk at Freeze Arse with Stan Graham and his buddy John from the Diablo Buckskinners. We had a little fog starting out, but it lifted and we had sunshine around 1p.m. It was not too cold, but a jacket made things very comfortable. I shot in my capote and coon skin cap. We all shot our flintlocks. After the shoot we went to the local corner market and grill and had a nice hamburger lunch on the patio in the sunshine. A good time was had by all. I was home before 4 pm.

Sunday, January 3, 2021

Regretfully the 2020 pandemic saw the cancellation of the Mountain Ranch April and October rendezvous. The CA State Shoot near Ione was held although no one from SCML traveled to the shoot.

SVSC Range was closed for slightly 3 months reopening with restrictions of use. We have been able to meet those restrictions and shoot safely. So far only a few SCML members have participated at each shoot.

Not enough official shoots were held nor was there enough of a constant turnout to tally up aggregate scores for 2020 so no year end dinner even if restaurants were open.

Scotts Valley Sportsman's Club has published their SOP on their website making it easy to refresh your knowledge.

The Western States AZ Muzzle Loader shoot was scheduled for early March and then cancelled. The host club did not think that they could meet the Ben Avery Range requirements for safe COVID shooting. However at last look they are able to manage the shotgun and cartridge competitions.

The Freeze Arse in Manteca is still on for Jan 8, 9, 10 with the caveat that a call ahead on the day might be in order. See the flyer emailed a few days ago for information and a map.

When restrictions are removed as the pandemic is controlled and eventually over we'll be happy to return to shooting as usual and looking forward to restored rendezvous and restored everything in 2021.

Stay safe, keep your powder dry and look forward to shining times!
