Shooting Competitions

The Santa Cruz Muzzleloaders regularly schedules two blackpowder shooting events every month.  These events are normally held at the range operated by the Scotts Valley Sportsman's Club in Scotts Valley at Lodato Park. Rain does not necessarily cancel.

Our hosts, the Scotts Valley Sportsman's Club, operates on a members-only basis so guests will need to be accompanied by regular members to attend a shoot as well as agree to the range rules and sign an appropriate waiver. Prospective members interested in visiting a shooting event are asked to contact the club for more information and to make arrangements.

The range is located in the redwood trees behind 1500 Green Hills Road, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.

Drive to the parking lot behind 1500 Green Hills Road, to the very back of the parking lot, where a number containers for the Slawinski Auction House are found.  A trail from the parking leads into the forest and the gate to the range of the Scotts Valley Sportsman's Club.

Shooting Event Schedule

Blackpowder Pistol Shoot - First Saturday of the Month - 9am to Noon

Blackpowder Rifle Shoot - Third Saturday of the Month - 9am to Noon

Regular Meetings

Regular business meetings of the Santa Cruz Muzzleloaders normally occur immediately following the Rifle Shoot in the parking lot at noon on the Third Saturday of the Month.

Other Events

From time to time, the club arranges special shooting events.  For instance, Mini-Rendezvous events occur once or twice each year, featuring a trail-walk competition, followed by the renown potluck luncheon.  Or the revered, Birthday shoot in October which has had our crew trying their hand at silhouette targets with blackpowder rifles. 

SCML potlucks have also broken out at a number of regional rendezvous and blackpowder shooting competitions including the NMLRA Western National Shoot at the Ben Avery Range in Phoenix, Arizona.
