SCML for 2022

We will start the new year out by resuming our participation in the International Postal Match sponsored by Upper Michigan Peninsula Muzzleloaders. For those who participated in the past the UMPML sends out targets to be shot at 25 yards beginning with the January shoot and ending with the June shoot. Targets are to be shot at a club match and a minimum of 6 targets are turned in to be scored. We pick the best 6 each time so everyone has a chance to shine. Shooters are not picked beforehand. Scores are published on their web site and they include clubs from Canada as well as the US. The web site is here if you want more information:

NO AWARDS DINNER FOR 2021

There was not enough constant participation in 2020 to calculate the 6 highest scores so that an overall score could be determined. There is also not enough money in the treasury to underwrite an awards dinner. Restaurants expect a guaranteed number of paying diners and keeping the individual dinners affordable is important. Ideas for a casual lunch or potluck have been tossed around with nothing settled. Suggestions for date and place  or even if you would attend are welcome.

SCML 2022 Dues Needed by January 31, 2022

Mountain Ranch Rendezvous at Railroad Flat

October 8 -10, 2021

After a pandemic enforced hiatus the rendezvous at Railroad Flat has returned and seems to have recovered enough to host the April Rendezvous. With the combined help from West Point Gun Club, Rusty McGhee and Santa Cruz Muzzle Loaders the rendezvous was pronounced a success for the first time out under Rusty's new management.

Weather was cold with rain and light drizzle at first until Saturday and Sunday when the sun came out but the air was still fairly cool. Many of our usual suspects were not in attendance this year so our famous potluck did not take place.

There were just about 50 shooters including half a dozen Pee Wee's

2nd place Trade Gun Trail - Tim       3rd place Trade Gun Trail - Paul

1st place Flintlock Rifle Trail - Tim

2nd place Flintlock Rifle Trail - Steve - first time at this rendezvous

1st place Rifle Trail - Tim

The pistol trailwalk had a lot of competitors with a slew of 14's - Tim, Steve and Sherry among them - none in first place

A lot of preliminary work went into preparation including several trips ahead of the rendezvous - organizing and repairing targets, clearing brush from the trail and in front of targets, setting up and running registration and then clean up and take down. Paul put a lot of effort into making new trail signs for the targets.  Painting and repainting targets also had to be done. Thanks to Patrick, Tim, Mike, Sherry and most of all to Rusty for taking this on. Christie Abbott and Cathy Duncan were the registration stalwarts and much appreciated.

Next rendezvous at Railroad Flat will be April 22 - 24, 2022

Work parties will be needed before the April rendezvous to build target frames for the paper portion of the shoot along with other duties. These rendezvous are powered by volunteers.
